48 Hours of Padel in Kuala Lumpur: Where to Play, Eat and Stay

Jump into a game, eat your way through one of Asia's great food cities, and work up a sweat playing padel in between. Two days, three clubs, one of the best padel weekends on the continent.

Start where the city shows off. ASCARO's rooftop club at TREC sits above Jalan Tun Razak with the skyline lit up on every side and the Royal Selangor fairways fading into the dark beyond the glass. Four covered Padel Galis courts in the Swedish brand's signature black make a memorable stage for your first ball of the weekend.

Play under the lights, then let the evening open up. A dip in the 20-metre pool, a cocktail at the swim-up bar, dinner at SanTai House, run by the group behind Michelin-starred Beta KL. TREC puts some of KL's most celebrated nightlife on your doorstep, so from there, the city is yours.

Saturday belongs to City Padel. Three covered panoramic courts in bright blue, wrapped in greenery, with the Petronas Towers rising just beyond the fence. It looks exactly how a sunny KL Saturday should. Book a morning session, or a lesson with head coach Pablo Molina, a former Spanish National Padel Series finalist, before the heat settles in.

Then stay for lunch. Fresca serves one of the city's better post-match tables: grilled meats, warm bread and dips, fresh salads, proper coffee. A coconut or a Corona to finish. Your call.

If a sauna and ice bath sound like the better way to unwind after a game, The Rally Padel Club has three covered courts on the rooftop of Quill City Mall, KL Tower in view, and a stone's throw from the city centre.

Sundays are about taking it easy, and Pop Padel's completeness takes care of that. Six indoor MejorSet courts in Bamboo Hills, a garden enclave ten minutes north of the centre, with a centre court that seats 300 when the tournaments roll in. Get some coaching in, or join an Americano if one is running.

Afterwards, La Pala serves continental plates and cold Estrella overlooking the courts. Train, compete, unwind, then talk it all through in the seating area while the rest of KL has a go after you.

A grand option, and a practical one. The Mandarin Oriental sits beside KLCC Park, ten minutes from ASCARO TREC and City Padel and twenty from Pop Padel. Between sessions, the pool looks out over the park, the spa will settle whatever a third match has done to your shoulders, and eight restaurants and lounges mean the lazy option never feels like a compromise. When Saturday night calls for something serious, Dewakan is a stroll across the park.

Good for: groups who want everything handled and the shortest transfers to court.

The one for the view. Crowning Merdeka 118, the world's second-tallest tower, the Park Hyatt puts the whole weekend below you: 252 rooms behind floor-to-ceiling glass, contemporary design threaded with Malaysian craft, and all three clubs within twenty minutes. The spa and indoor pool sit high enough to make recovery feel like an event, afternoon tea at Park Lounge fills the gap between sessions, and Cacao Mixology & Chocolate handles the post-match debrief. Bukit Bintang waits at street level when you want the city up close.

Good for: couples and anyone who wants the weekend to feel like an occasion.

RuMa takes its name from the Malay word for house, and it plays the accomplished host: attentive, personal service and open-plan rooms in wood and rattan, at a quieter register than its Golden Triangle address suggests. City Padel is a stone's throw away, with the other two clubs ten to twenty minutes out. The infinity pool, cantilevered over the district below, is the place for a slow length before your court time, and ATAS turns handpicked local produce into the kind of dinner a good day of padel deserves.

Good for: players who want boutique calm in the middle of everything.

Malaysia's only two-Michelin-starred restaurant, 48 floors above KLCC and minutes from City Padel's courts. Chef Darren Teoh builds his tasting menu around indigenous Malaysian ingredients, some half-forgotten even locally, serving it against a floor-to-ceiling view of the city you have spent the weekend playing in. Book well ahead and take the early sitting: sunset over the Petronas Towers is part of the meal. A natural finale to the trip.

On the fourth floor of Else in Chinatown, chef Jun Wong cooks over open fire: seafood-led sharing plates, burnt butter hummus, grilled fish, natural wines that keep the table going. The room is built to stretch past dinner into something looser, which makes it the right speed for a Friday or Saturday night when the group is still buzzing from the courts. Fifteen minutes from the Golden Triangle, and worth every one of them.

Else Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Tun H S Lee · Evenings, Wednesday to Sunday

Refined Italian in the leafy shadow of KL Tower, minutes from City Padel and the Golden Triangle hotels. Executive chef Paolo Cola's menu runs from vitello tonnato to paccheri with lobster, backed by a cellar that works through Italy region by region. The terrace, with the tower rising out of Bukit Nanas above you, is one of the city centre's better places to draw out a long lunch after a morning session.
